They need customers' feedback to provide essential features

Just read about the UX (user experience) improvements of IE7 beta 3 like drag-n-drop tab reordering, magnification cursor on image and easy access to email. I wonder why the Lead Program Manager, Max Stevens bothered to blog it out since Mozilla FireFox already have all those features included in their browser which released in year 2005. The most funny thing I find in the post is they claimed that the changes was made specifically related to beta testers' feedbacks.

Does this mean MS never do things according to users' taste before this?

what i wanted to say was that essential features should be built before beta release

Very simple. Mozilla is a competitor, they can't "copy" directly from Mozilla's list of features. So, when they did incorporate this, they want to make it look as though that the beta testers requested for it.
