All the while
Java is my platform of choice and I've been tended to looking for or implementing solutions built on Java to solve any problems before even considering any other alternatives. But I think my mind has changed that I believe other platforms could do better than Java in many circumstances.
For example when I was looking for a good
bug tracking system, I didn't really want to setup any Java based web application because what I want is something simple and easy, I prefer to use only a
web server for this purpose. Some might say that Tomcat web container is just as simple as any web server, although I do agree on this point, I want something can run natively i.e. separate runtime is not needed.
For this particular problem, even though the final decision is yet to be decided, I'm pretty sure that we'll certainly go for LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and Perl/PHP). I'm more than willing to have LAMP to solve this problem so that we can be more focus on leveraging the strength of Java platform on our core business problems.
