Ever wonder where did the name Big5 (character encoding method used in Taiwan, Hong Kong for traditional chinese characters) character set come from? Why not big6? Why not small5?
I didn't know the fact until I read an article stated in Sinchew press.
It is due to the original design goal to support the five major software packages used in Taiwan at the time, or to the five leading computer companies in Taiwan - Acer, MiTAC, JiaJia, Zero One, and FIC that collaborated to develop the code.

After hearing a lot about web UI development frameworks like JSF, Struts, Tapestry, WebWork and so on. I'm glad to know there will be a Swing development framework coming soon, which is called Swing Application Framework, and the purpose of this JSR:

The lack of a basic application framework has made Swing application development difficult, particularly for new developers. A standard base for applications will reduce the work required to get applications off the ground and improve their average quality.

But it won't be available until 2007.
